Abstract

The aim of this article is to present, by means of a case study, group transference and countertransference
during an eight-month sociotherapeutic group and to share reflections on the
strengths and weaknesses of the example described. The group was conducted in a psychodynamic
approach, therefore the article shows the dynamics of the individual stages of the group
process and the emotional reactions of both participants and leaders that appeared during these
stages. The examples described are based on personal experience and are a subjective assessment relating to the theoretical framework. The article takes into account difficult situations that had
a real impact on the nature of the group and how it unfolded, while attempting to explain the
situations described and give them meaning in psychodynamic terms.
